Spring in the hearts and minds of the animals

In the Ligatne Nature Trails the piles of snow gradually melt, while animals already have “spring feelings”. Spring can be felt also in the air with spring sounds, smells and bustle. The trails might be slippery and visitors therefore are advised to wear appropriate footwear. In order to observe the animals close up without disturbing them, a binocular will serve as an ideal companion.

In the enclosure of the foxes the rut is well under way. Hoarse barks can be heard even during the day and the characteristic “fox smell” can be felt in the surroundings. It is wedding time also for lynxes and eagle-owls. Basking in the sun, the lynx family with their cubs from the last year is well observed on the tree trunks or snowdrifts.

The elk couple Svenson and Gita has passed the winter well. The roebuck Romeo lives in the same enclosure. Once he jumped in the elk enclosure and decided to stay there. For the wild boar couple, in their turn, mating season has ended and probably the young boars could be born in spring.
