A new inhabitant in Līgatne Nature Trails – elk Nikodemus Svenson from Sweden

The animal family of the Līgatne Nature Trails has a new member. Elk Nicodemus Svenson from the Swedish zoo - „Skansen” arrived in Līgatne Nature Trails before Christmas. Meanwhile, the local inhabitant - the young cow elk Vizbulīte (Anemone) went to her new home in Kalvene and now can be visited in the Riga Zoo affiliate „Cīruļi”.

The new inhabitant elk Nicodemus was born on 12th May, 2010, in the zoo of Stockholm. The northerner will stay in the same enclosure with the elk girl Gita. Animal care keepers have noticed that Gita shows much interest about the new inhabitant and, although smaller in stature, tries to show that she is the main here. During the first days, Nicodemus was quite fearful, but now gradually becomes accustomed to the new environment and companion.

On the other side of the elk fence, behind the plank-way, live the other elk family members of Līgatne - Antiņš, Līzīte and Saulīte.
