Līgatne ferry

The cross-Gauja ferry by Līgatne is the only one ferry on the Gauja River at the time being and is a historical monument. It was built here after the World War II, after the destruction of the bridge.

Cross-Gauja ferries were mentioned in historical documents in 1350 for the first time. There were 9 ferries across the Gauja River in the 17th century because it hindered a comfortable traffic with Estonia and Russia. In 20-ties and 30-ties of 20th century there were 8 cross-Gauja ferries in the territory of Gauja NP.

 

Working hours for the Cross-Gauja ferry of Līgatne:

Every day from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

In winter season from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

NB! The cross-Gauja ferry is closed if the water level in the Gauja River is too high or too low, in case if the river is frozen in winter.

Prices for crossing River Gauja (one way)

for pedestrians (also with a bicycle) - 0.50 Ls
for cars (also motorbike, scooter etc.) - 1,50 Ls

for car passengers – 0,50 Ls (each), for car driver – for free

for children of  pre-school age (from 0 to 6 years old) and disabled people - for free

The use regulations for the Cross-Gauja ferry by Līgatne:

1. The carrying capacity of the ferry is 6 tons.
2. To get on and off the ferry is allowed only after an invitation of the ferryman.
3. All passengers have to get off the vehicle before it is driven onto the ferry.
4.The vehicle must be in a technical order.
5. It is forbidden to step over the barriers of the ferry.
6.To put in and to take out boats and rafts from the Gauja River is allowed only in the indicated places.

Unfortunately at the time being there is no possibility to pay for the use of the ferry with a credit card - we accept only cash in Lats. The closest cash dispenser is located in the center of the Līgatne town. We are sorry for inconvenience!
